Compound Interest

やはりinterestといえば，「興味，関心」という言葉が真っ先に思い浮かぶので，compoundが「複合，混合，複数」というような意味だと知っていても，数学ではどんな意味なのかなと思ってしまうのですが，interest にはもうひとつ「利息」という意味もあるので，compound interestは複利計算の「複利」という意味になります．関連して，1年ごとの利息のいい方を"5% p.a."などという場合があります．これはラテン語"per annum"の略で，"by the year"の意味です．

まずinitial amount or principal（元金）を$P$，annual interest rate（年利率）を$r$とします．annual（1年ごと）の複利では，$t$年後の元利合計$A(t)$は次式になります． $$A(t)=P(1+r)^t$$ 次にsemi-annual（半年ごと）の複利では，$r$の半分の利息で年に2回，上の計算をしますから，$t$年後の元利合計$A(t)$は次式になります． $$A(t)=P\left(1+\frac{r}{2}\right)^{2t}$$ 同様に，quarterly（3か月ごと）, monthly（毎月）, daily（毎日）となると， $$A(t)=P\left(1+\frac{r}{4}\right)^{4t},\space \space \space A(t)=P\left(1+\frac{r}{12}\right)^{12t},\space \space \space A(t)=P\left(1+\frac{r}{365}\right)^{365t}$$ となり，実際に数字を代入して計算すると，少しずつ増えていきますが，増え方は減っていきます．これをさらに毎分，毎秒と細かく計算していって極限を考えると一定の値に近づきます． $$A(t)=\lim_{n\rightarrow \infty} P\left(1+\frac{r}{n}\right)^{nt}$$ ここで$\frac{r}{n}=x$とおくと，$n=\frac{r}{x}$となり，$x\rightarrow 0$となるので次の式が得られます． $$A(t)=\lim_{x\rightarrow 0} P\left(1+x\right)^{\frac{rt}{x}}=\lim_{x\rightarrow 0} P\lbrace(1+x)^\frac{1}{x}\rbrace^{rt}=Pe^{rt}$$ この最後の式の中の$e$はNapier's number（ネイピア数＝base of the natural logarithm自然対数の底＝2.71828....）で，この式をcontinuous compound interest formula（連続複利の公式）といいます．

因みに三角関数の加法定理は，Trigonometric Addition FormulaとかAngle Addition Formulaと呼ばれていますが，加法定理は他の分野にもあり，それと区別するためかCompound Angle Formulaとも呼ばれています．

経済用語に，CAGR（Compound Annual Growth Rate＝年平均成長率）というのがあります．例えばある商品の5年間の売り上げデータがあり，前年より何％増えたかというgrowth rate（成長率）が1.7%, 1.6%, 22.6%, 31.6%だったとします．arithmetic mean（相加平均）なら $$\frac{1.7+1.6+22.6+31.6}{4}=14.4\text{%}$$ になりますが，CAGRは各前年比のgeometric mean（相乗平均）から1を引きます．すなわち，次の計算になります． $$\sqrt[4]{1.017\times1.016\times1.226\times1.316}-1\approx1.136-1=0.136=13.6\text{%}$$ 【Compound Interest 問題】
